Read on for tips and tricks regarding my take on the Spring 2023 fashion trends I personally, plan on adding to my wardrobe!

Ah Spring 2023, I am so excited to have you back, after what has felt like the longest, coldest, winter ever (I think we Canadians say this every year, as if its unexpected). With spring comes cute wildlife, pretty flowers (after Aprils showers ofc), and my all time favourite season for fashion! This year on the trend horizon I have foreseen pastel pink and blues (as per), bows... everywhere, lots of lace, mixed metals, knitwear and best of all, the return of flower appliqués and frills. Definitely not for the faint of heart!!! While many of these are repeat items from seasons past, (i.e., knit wear and lace), I believe that when the seasons change, so do our usages for different items. For example, in the winter time, I tend to frequent knitwear with long sleeves and thick wool... whereas, in the spring, I would instead opt for a more impractical approach, for example, knit tube tops {stay tuned... there may be something in the works;)} Enough rambling!! Read on to discover my 'hot' takes on Spring 2023's upcoming fashion trends!
Disclaimer: The following subheadings (and anything I say, really) are all up for the interpretation of the reader!! Feel free to pay no mind to my silly little predictions, and stay true to your personal style if you so choose<3
Trend Prediction #1- Sheer Lace
This first trend is a spicy one! While for many, lace, especially the sheer kind, is seen as an undergarment... I say to hell with that (pardon my french)! Lace is such a versatile material...personally, I am envisioning a midi-length sheer lace slip (preferably black or white) which a black bra/underwear combo underneath... knee high riding boots... you get the picture! While you may not find me traipsing around the streets of London, ON, in my underwear (well, never say never), you can bet your bottom dollar that the second I manage to thrift one of these babies, it will be all over the Insta!
Trend Prediction #2- Bows... duh
Bows... so cutesy and dainty, I love it!! I could just tie them on everything... and well, I kind of have been. From in my hair, the straps of my shoulder-bags, to the belt buckles of my pants, they just add an extra *:ꔫ:*oomph*:ꔫ:* to every outfit I have utilized them with (you can't tell me those bows don't look ADORABLE in that sentence... I mean come on!!). Coming back down to earth... one of the best ways I have seen bows utilized this Spring was at the Sandy Liang NYFW Fall/Winter 23 show. The entirety of the show, and all of the runway looks were absolutely gorgeous, I still can't get enough!! The simultaneous use of frills, lace, and flower appliqués was inspiring, and the Sandy Liang brand has been a HUGE source of inspo for my personal style this upcoming Spring.

Trend Prediction #3- Mixed Metals
As an avid jewelry wearer... I absolutely love the idea of a mixed metal look, specifically regarding rings! I think it's a super cool way to get the maximum use out of your favourite jewelry pieces, while adding a bit of flair to any look. The one drawback to this trend (at least for me) revolves around my lifelong fixation on silver jewelry. I have aways been a 'silver girl'...through and through. Maybe its the affordability, or possibly the fact that I rarely, if ever take my jewelry off, and silver tends to stay shiny as long as its worn...? Who knows, really. The fact of the matter is, I own little to no gold jewelry. In fact, the only gold I own is a ring from my grandmother that I am not allowed to wear... at almost 21. While in my current state, I am currently unable to participate in this trend, I plan on outsourcing affordable, gold plated pieces to add to my collection for the upcoming season (will update if I find anything worth checking out)!
Trend Prediction #4- Knit Wear
Knitwear is a tried and true for me. It’s reliable and fashionable, while simultaneously keeping me warm and comfy alllll through the winter! Now that Spring is here, I’d like to discuss ways that knitwear can still be utilized in one’s everyday wardrobe. Yes, the average Canadian spring is often plagued by the occasional snowfall in April, so don’t go packing up those sweaters just yet! However, on the days where functionality goes out the window, I’d like to think that knitwear is still acceptable, in the forms or boleros and tube tops (and whatever else you’d like, really). Anywho, in my desperate search for a slow-fashion solution for my lack of “Spring-ready” knitwear, I stumbled upon accounts such as @freyamckee & @request.bys on Instagram, who create adorable pieces, in a variety of styles, making them a perfect addition to your seasonal wardrobe!
I too, am currently cooking up ideas for slow-fashion, handmade knitwear…so keep your eyes peeled for that!! <3
Trend Prediction #5- Flower Appliqués and Frills
To finish up my Spring 2023 Fashion Trend Predictions, let us end on a high note! Flower appliqués and frills, as previously mentioned have become the seasons most chic accessory, really bringing an element of Y2K/90s style into any look! This trend is so good that even Carrie Bradshaw herself has participated!! Flower appliqués, more recently found wrapped around ones neck, in the form of chokers and as an additive to anything, really, can be an easy DIY to utilize when upcyceling. One thing I have found really exciting, is the element of knitwear I have seen brought into this trend as well! I don't know about you guys, but my Pinterest is currently filled with a plethora of flower crochet tutorials! Another thing I've noticed is the fact that the appliqués and frills are often paired together... as seen below in the photo of Hailey Bieber at an event for her beauty brand (Don't come for me for using her as an example ;)... it's just a really good look!!). I myself participated in this trendy combo just last night, when I went out with the roomies for a few and some karaoke. It can be dressed up, and dressed down and has become a new favourite way to accessorize!
